A B O U T T H E A R T I S T . . . Ellen Kirwan was born and raised in San Francisco, a perfect environment for a naturally creative child. She was creating art at a very young age, in 1st grade Kirwan's puppet creation was entered into a children's art show at a local museum. She recalls being called to see the Principal in 2nd grade and scared to death that she had done something so terrible that they were calling her in a year later. It turned out they just wanted this young blossoming artist’s permission to show her art. :) Throughout her life Kirwan has explored many mediums: Pastels, oils, sculpture, photography, and design to name a few. Her training ranges from numerous artist workshops, architectural classes, drawing and rendering. Kirwan is currently working in exploring abstract and collage. Kirwan states, "Abstract to me is the ultimate in artistic expression and that's where I want to go. I love the work of Rothko, Pollack, and Kandinsky. Abstract looks so matter of fact and easy but it's just the opposite is true. Abstract is something an artist evolves into. I love layers of color and texture; lots of texture." This is evident from her work and can be viewed in her gallery. Kirwan has a wonderful eye for balance and design as well as a spontaneous urge to get her viewer's attention by using juxtaposition in her pieces. Her art reflects her strong desire to express what feels good to her. Her art is soft, elegant, has a whimsical appeal, as if she's captured a very still moment... yet there is always a spash of boldness and passion to surprise us. "I look forward to continue evolving and experimenting with my art and growing as an artist and as a human being. I can’t wait to see where art and life take me!" . . . |
